OUR RESPONSE: Yes there are! Most products used for sleep are more are less tranquilizers, thus the groggy, sluggish feeling. They also, as I like to put it, give you the illusion of sleep, not true restful reparative sleep. So what we need to establish is solid sleep that leaves you feeling rested and leaves you waking up feeling ready for the day. Staying asleep and falling asleep are two different issues, so we can start with something basic that can help both and then if we need to look at more than we will. For many people it can be the pace many of us keep all day long and shutting down may be hard for the body, even if you can fall asleep this still may lead to waking up a few hours into the night. I would suggest Revitalizing Sleep which is a combination product for sleep. Pick one of two ways to take it. If you have a hard time staying asleep and this has been going on for some time then I would suggest 3-4 capsules at bedtime (if it for occasional issues then try 1-2 capsules at bedtime). If you have an issue with both falling and staying asleep I would suggest that you take 1 Revitalizing Sleep at 7-8pm when you are at home and then follow up with 2 at bedtime (this way we are trying to get your body in a more relaxed place and ready for sleep). The ingredients in the product are designed to put your body in the right place for sleep and thus keep you sleeping. As always make sure that you are getting enough time in bed for sleep, too much fighting sleep will only make things worse.

Q. I am anemic and am looking for an iron supplement that will not constipate me. What would you suggest? – Melissa
OUR RESPONSE: I am a big fan of a product called Energizing Iron. It utilizes a few different direction to boost the quality of the blood products the body makes. It uses and Heme form of iron that is easy on the body and it is also the age old concept of improve the blood by ingesting liver. Now the last thing I want someone doing in the US is eating animal liver, since our animals are not the healthiest, so we use bovine liver fractions from safer countries. This combination is so comfortable for the digestive system that you will not see upset stomach or constipation. Dosing of this product can be anything from 2 daily to 6 daily depending on how low the blood work is. It is also important in anemia that you have all the basic blood building pieces that are important, B vitamins, Vitamin C, minerals, Essential Fats. In addition you need to have a solid digestive system, so if you have any GI health concerns we need to look at this. On a personal note I lost a massive amount of blood after a surgery due to severe internal bleeding a number of years ago. I credit Energizing Iron with getting me to a healthy CBC within 2 weeks. I stayed on it for some time after and I never needed any expensive treatment so you could say I LOVE this product!
Thanks for a great question.
Q. Can you explain adverse effects of taking VItamin E alone? – Jo Ann
OUR RESPONSE: Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin which makes it a little more complex than other vitamins. There are somewhere around 60 different compounds in vitamin E and we tend to use just one in most nutritional supplements, d-alpha tocopherol. (Make sure you use the natural versions, the d form, do not use dl forms). It is OK to use the single forms, but if a mixed form is available please choose that. The next thing to clear up before we get into the details about negative effects with E is that all nutrients work together. Your body chemistry works as a synergy, the Krebs Cycle proves that, if there is too high in one and then not enough in another we have a breakdown in function and energy. E is a great example of why vitamins/minerals need to be done in balanced combinations. E is an antioxidant and antioxidants are electron donors, they donate an electron to free radicals (these are formed by natural cellular metabolism and by environmental exposure, cigarette smoke, chemical food additives etc…and are single electrons). These free radicals do damage to cells and tissue that lead to cell death, shut-down, or hypo function. Electron donning is essential for free radical elimination. E has 2 electrons to donate, so if all you are doing is high E then a E molecule donates 1 electron to a free radical and becomes free radical itself (prooxidant). Then as E turns into a very powerful free radical, damage can be done. That is why I tell people if you are taking just E you need to add on at least some Vitamin C (Ascorbate form – NOT Ascorbic Acid). C has 3 electrons, so even as it donates 1 electron to E to make it antioxidant again it is still safe with 2 electrons. So my rule is E at 400iu needs to be matched with C 500mg at a minimum (combining with Grape Seed Extract can be even more effective, since it has almost infinite electrons). Hopefully this explanation is easy to follow. I love to tell people that through nutrition, bio-chemistry makes sense to me! Just memorizing in school with little application was more than just a little confusing. Thanks for a great question!
Q. Do you carry Rasberry Ketones and White Kidney Bean Extrac? – Patti
OUR RESPONSE: You are the second person to ask me this today. I believe that Dr Oz was promoting these products. I have carried the White Kidney Bean Extract in the past. I currently have it on order for the person who inquired today. Now on to the Raspberry Ketones. I was not familiar with this and currently cannot find it from any of my suppliers. The fat burning abilities that it claims to have look promising, but I have not seen much research on it yet. I know that he is also recommending L-Carnitine and with looking at a few concepts about raspberry ketones and the combined effects it really is playing into creating clean cellular energy. Which means not just creating a scary metabolism boost in you like phentermine but a healthy energy for you boosting your metabolism in a way that will keep it strong over time. A few things used currently like green tea extracts and panax ginseng are nice ways to boost a healthy metabolism and if you need to suppress an appetite then hoodia or 5-HTP can have great effects.
